Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarship for his family as well as service in the local community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious the Jessie and Lucious Selmon. The family lived on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. In football, he played with his three brothers in Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the USA. He won two championships and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. Selmon was an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was given an award for his third time in 1975. Selmon earned a diploma from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during college. After graduation Lee Roy relocating to Tampa and spent the next nine years playing with Tampa's Buccaneers. There were three times he was named All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, he was working as an Account Relation Manager at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was an athlete, was captain of his team for the year 1975. In 1993, he joined the university of south Fla's athletic department as the assistant director. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
